Flaws can arise anywhere between the data, analysis, reasoning and conclusion — through incomplete data, unreliable measurements, poor comparisons, untested assumptions or overconfident interpretation.

What FactWise investigates

Depending on the question, the investigation may examine:

  • Data and measurement — origin, definitions, completeness, reliability and consistency over time
  • Variation and patterns — signal versus noise, trends, averages, anomalies and unusual behaviour
  • Statistical analysis — appropriateness of methods, robustness, uncertainty and practical relevance
  • Assumptions and alternative explanations — what may have been overlooked, selectively interpreted or taken for granted
  • Statistical reasoning — whether the interpretation follows from the data and whether cause-and-effect conclusions are justified
  • The overall evidence — what supports the conclusion, what contradicts it, and what is still missing

The purpose is to trace the reasoning from the original question to the final conclusion and identify where the facts, data and evidence support the claim — and where they do not.
